The High Country Grizzlies kicked off the month of March with its first practice in franchise history on Tuesday night. Originally scheduled to hold practice at Hardin Park, the team took to the field at the Sofield Indoor Practice Facility on ASU’s campus for a 31 player, no-pads practice after weather conditions forced the new team indoors.
Head coach Josh Resignalo was happy with the team’s first official practice to date.
“There was good energy and good tempo,” Resignalo said.
Facing the Georgia Firebirds in Albany, GA on March 18, the Grizzlies wasted no time honing their skills for its first ever National Arena League game. Focusing on position groups for the majority of the inaugural practice, the Grizzlies wrapped up the day with the full offensive and defensive teams squaring off against each other.
While Tuesday marked the team’s first-ever practice, the Grizzlies will have to make cuts to its roster before the season opener in Albany. The National Arena League places a 24-player roster limit for each team, which is 16 players fewer than the 40 that originally signed up for the Grizzlies’ training camp. Head coach Resignalo will cut the team down to the 24-player limit after the Grizzlies’ first full-pads practice scheduled for Saturday, March 11 at Hardin Park.
With the team’s first home game at the Holmes Convocation Center slated for March 25, the Grizzlies hope to roll back to Boone with momentum after the season opener in Albany. The Grizzlies will take on the Lehigh Valley (PA) Steel Hawks on Saturday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
