Nov. 24, 2014. A nice crowd spent Saturday in Seven Devils enjoying some tubing and ziplining at Hawksnest Resort.
“Saturday was good. It was a nice day and a good day for tubing. A lot of people came out,” Hawksnest owner Lenny Cottom said.
Hawksnest began making snow on Thursday and opened for the first day of tubing on Saturday with 17 lanes. However, the rains came and washed away any tubing adventures for Sunday. Cottom said that the tubing operation will resume on Friday.
While tubing will only be open on the weekends this early in the season, ziplining is running everyday that the weather permits.
For some time now, Hawksnest has been the largest snow tubing park on the East Coast, but this year Cottom said that Hawksnest will have additional lanes. During the peak of the 2014-15 winter season, and 30 lanes will be operating, ranging from 400 to 1,000 feet. It also continues to invest in snowmaking and grooming, adding a few more grooming machines this year.
