A snowstorm in September?

That’s what Kidd Brewer Stadium is going to look like when Old Dominion University comes to Boone to face off against the Mountaineers in the first home game of the 2016 season.

The home opener is being promoted as the school’s first “whiteout” game, and just as the football squad is wearing white uniforms and helmets, App State fans are asked to don white, too.

Kickoff takes place on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3:30 p.m.

So what to wear if you are going to the game?

Well, Mprints, which has been selling the game day, opponent-specific shirts for the past 15 years, will have the ODU-specific white shirts available for $10 (cash only) inside the stadium on Saturday. That’s a pretty good deal.

Because of an agreement with App State Athletics, Mprints owner Stuart Mangum said that the game day shirts aren’t available at the retail level, but folks can get a sneak peak of the merchandise in the company’s storefront window on King Street prior to the game.

The Appalachian State Bookstore has plenty of white apparel, according to an associate on Tuesday morning, who added that related merchandise “will be going on sale for an extra 50 percent off beginning on Thursday.”

Also, don’t forget about App State Athletics online store, which has all kinds of App State merchandise including some white apparel perfect for Saturday’s contest against ODU.

1083204App State Equipment’s Twitter feed also alerted fans to white jerseys used in games past for $100. See description of the product:

“Game-Used Appalachian State Jerseys! These white jerseys were worn during the 2013-2015 seasons by Mountaineer Student-Athletes. These Nike Jerseys are a base color of white with the shoulder being black and a black block “A” on each shoulder. Also, on the collar of each jersey is the motto ALWAYS ATTACK.”

Contrasting all the white apparel in the stands and on the field will be the black end zones.

As part of last year’s end-of-season survey, fans said they wanted the black end zones back at Kidd Brewer Stadium, and according to App State Athletics, the final stitches are nearly in place for Saturday’s game.

The traditional black background look will feature gold “APPALACHIAN” in the north end zone and “MOUNTAINEERS” in the south end zone in block lettering. The installation will continue through the weekend, according to a release from App State Athletics.

“Many of our fans mentioned bringing back the black end zones in our fan surveys last summer,” App State Director of Athletics Doug Gillin said. “We talked to Scott Satterfield, he was in favor of it, so we did it. We’ve been listening to our fans, trying to make improvements where we can, and we felt this was a larger improvement our fans could get excited about.”
