Former Track Coach Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Dec. 7, 2012. NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) announced its six candidates that will be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame later this year. Among the six inductees included former head track and cross country coach Bob Pollock.

During Pollock’s tenure at Appalachian he led the Mountaineers to 10 Southern Conference titles, which included one cross country championship, four indoor championships, and five outdoor championships.

Pollock went on to coach at Clemson University where he coached from 1988-2008. In his 20 season at the helm Clemson won 21 ACC crowns, which included one cross country title, 11 indoor titles and nine outdoor titles. Pollock’s 1988 cross country team not only won the ACC title but went on to finish fourth at the NCAA national meet. The 1988 season was capped off when Pollock and his team won the “Triple Crown” of the ACC taking home a cross country, indoor track and outdoor track crowns, which was a first in Clemson history.

The Rochester, N.Y. native earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from The Citadel in 1971, where he was a four-year letterwinner as a distance runner. During his four-year career, he was voted team captain and MVP. Pollock went on to earn his master’s degree in physical education from the University of Georgia in 1972.

Pollock’s coaching career began at The Citadel where he served at head cross country coach and assistant track coach from 1972-74.

Pollock passed away on February a8, 2010 at the age of 60. He was inducted into the Clemson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
