July 11, 2013. After collapsing at a summer pro-am game in Charlotte on Tuesday, former ASU basketball guard Omar Carter was in a medically induced coma until Thursday morning, according to media reports.

Charleston Southern Coach Barclay Radebaugh told the Charleston Post and Courier that Carter woke up from the coma this morning and that his vital signs are “terrific.”

Carter, a Charlotte native, played two seasons at Charleston Southern before transferring to ASU for his junior and senior seasons.

In his two seasons with ASU, Carter averaged 11.7 points his junior year and 16.3 points in 2011-12. Along with a slew of other accolades during his collegiate basketball career, he was named the Southern Conference Pre-Season Player of the Year for 2011-12

The 6-5 guard played for a Brazilian pro team during the 2012-13 season and averaged 11.8 points in 30 games.
