BOONE, N.C.  –  The music blared, the weather was overcast and the whistles blew on Sunday for the second day of Appalachian State University football fall camp Wednesday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The Mountaineers split up Sunday’s practice much like it did Saturday with a Black and Gold squad, giving the coaches time to look at student-athletes that may not get the reps during a regular two-hour practice.

Both sessions were filled with individual and team drills while going through 7-on-7 periods. The offense and defense then separated, with the offense making sure the offensive lineman were getting in their splits, running backs hitting the right holes and wide receivers running precise routes. On the defensive side, the coaches made sure the student-athletes were making the right reads, hitting the gaps and in the right assignments.

Before going 7-on-7, the wide receivers and cornerbacks went 1-on-1 against each other. The cornerbacks did a great job in coverage forcing the wideouts out of bounds and making sure they didn’t get any separation.

In the first period,  Jacob Huesman (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River), Curtis Fitch (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) and Zeb Speir (Sylva, N.C./Smokey Mountain) took majority of the snaps during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11, while  Jalin Moore (Shelby, N.C./Crest) andTerrence Upshaw (Duluth, Ga./Northview) took on the load at tailback. In 7-on-7, Huesman found Deltron Hopkins (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington) down the middle for a nice touch pass. Later in Black session, Zy Letman reached up over Brandon Pinckney for a very impressive catch.

For the defense, Josh Thomas (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Academy) showcased impressive coverage skills were he picked off a pair of passes.

During the Gold Practice, Lamb and Zac Thomas (Trussville, Ala/Hewitt-Trussville) handled the signal calling on offense, andMarcus Cox (Dacula, Ga./Dacula) and Josh Boyd (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) picked up the carries. Lamb was on point in 7-on-7 hitting five different wide receivers, including a bullet to Barrett Burns (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah). In 11-on-11, the defense put some pressure on the quarterbacks, highlighted by a sack from Dezmin Reed (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Military College) and Devan Stringer (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville).
