Oct. 21, 2014. Appalachian State University football placed five players on the Phil Steele’s College Football Preview midseason all-Sun Belt Conference team that was announced this weekend. Defensive end Ronald Blair and safety Doug Middleton represent Appalachian State on the first team while running back Marcus Cox, wide receiver Simms McElfresh and offensive lineman Kendall Lamm earned second-team recognition.

Appalachian State’s five honorees are tied for fifth among all Sun Belt teams.

Headlining Appalachian’s five selections, Blair ranks among the Sun Belt leaders in tackles for loss (t-4th – 7.0) and sacks (t-18th – 2.0) while Middleton is tied for the conference lead with three interceptions and also is also among the league leaders in passes defensed (t-5th – 5) and total tackles (t-11th – 47).

On the second team, Cox ranks third in the Sun Belt with 569 rushing yards and is tied for the conference lead with nine touchdowns. McElfresh leads the Mountaineers’ air attack, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in passing efficiency, with 31 receptions and five touchdown catches. Lamm anchors an offensive front that has paved the way for an offense that ranks third in the conference in scoring (33.7 ppg), rushing (227.9 ypg) and total offense (455.0 ypg).
