Diamond Apps Take Game One in SoCon Tournament; Down Furman 7-5; Will Face Samford or W. Carolina

May 23, 2012. GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Appalachian State Mountaineers baseball team defeated Furman 7-5 in their first game of the Southern Conference Tournament.

Pitcher Ryan Arrowood threw five strikeouts in seven innings of play and Tyler Tewell, the SoCon’s second-leading hitter with a .376 average, had two RBIs.

ASU scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist Daniel Kassouf chipped in one hit and two RBIs to match Tewell’s two.

ASU baseball moves to 39-14 on the season (22-9 SoCon).

The Mountaineers will face the winner of the Samford/Western Carolina game Thursday at 8 p.m.
