Mountaineers fans waved flags and pompoms during the “community sendoff” for the Appalachian State football team as it departed Boone for Montgomery, Ala., the host of the 2016 Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

The festivities didn’t last long as the convoy of buses made its way down King Street relatively quickly.

The Town of Boone, Downtown Boone Development Association, and the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce arranged the community sendoff on Tuesday.

The Mountaineers face Toledo in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, Saturday, Dec. 17, at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Saturday’s game will be the Mountaineers second-straight bowl as eligible members in the FBS. Last year, App State became the first team to win a bowl in its first year of bowl eligibility.

Bowl tickets can be purchased through the App State Athletics. Ticket office by calling 828-262-2079 or visit appstatesports.com for more details. Tailgate packages are available through the Appalachian State Alumni Association at alumni.appstate.edu.
