Mabel School students were ready to go back to school with spirit! Chancellor Sheri Everts keynoted this special event talking about her own journey as a first generation college student. ASU Athletics Director, Doug Gillin, also had some inspiring words for Mabel’s 2015 student body.

He even led them in an ASU cheer with the help of the ASU cheerleaders and Yosef. The event was led by school counselor, Christy Welch, who attended the White House convening in San Diego that was focused on the First Ladies Reach Higher initiative. The focus of the pep rally was to inspire students to do their best and reach higher to achieve their post secondary goals.

“At Mabel School we are focused on the promise to prepare students for their post secondary goals,” says Christy Welch.

Other important guests were in attendance including Associate Athletic Director, Brittany Whiteside; Assistant Athletics Director and County Commissioner John Welch; Skip Watts, College Foundation of NC; Tracy Tardiff, NC Appalachian Collaborative for Higher Education; Ginny Asma, ASU Gear Up; Laura Turner, Watauga County Gear Up; and Dr. Scott Elliott, Watauga County Superintendent.
