Champions Challenge Benefit Tennis Tournament Raises $12,250 for Grandfather Home for Children

June 25, 2012. Yonahlosse Raquet Club Held a tennis tournament benefitting Grandfather Home on Saturday and Sunday June 23-24. The tournament involved members from six different clubs in the area including Beech Mountain Club, Deer Valley Country Club, Cedar Rock, Hound Ears and Yonahlossee Raquet Club.

“Great days of tennis for a great cause, Grandfather Home for Children. We held a raffle with outstanding prizes of Kevin Beck art, case of wine, and 5 hours of tennis lessons by 5 terrific High Country Tennis Pros,” said Bruce Chadwick who ran the raffle and collected donations for the noble cause. The raffle raised over one thousand dollars for the home. In addtion to the raffle, more money was raised from tournament play.

“Our goal this weekend is to raise money for Grandfather Home for Children and to create a special community of players and friends in the High Country. I’m very pleased with the support of our members and friends and the exciting leading up to the event. I want to thank Rick and Neva Cresenzo for bringing light to this event. With two days of tennis planned, a luau party by the pool, a fantastic raffle, we will wrap things up with a brunch and ceremony on Sunday. With 36 players representing 5 area clubs and double the amount of guests we plan to raise over twelve thousand dollars,” commented Bryan Dirk, the director of tennis at Yonahlossee Raquet Club on Saturday.

Jim Swinkola, CEO of Grandfather Home came to spend the day at the tournament on Saturday. He said “On behalf of the 300 boys and girls under the care of Grandfather Home for Children, we thank the Yonahlossee Raquet Club for their dedication and effort in this inaugural tennis tournament.”

The tournament concluded raising $12,250 for the Grandfather Home for Children.
