Aug. 23, 2012. Appalachian State University head women’s golf coach Heather Brown unveiled Wednesday the team’s fall 2012 schedule, which features five tournaments in the Carolinas. The Mountaineers open the campaign at Wofford’s Terrier Intercollegiate on Sept. 10-11 at the Spartanburg Country Club.

App State competed at the event last year, claiming seventh place in the season opener. Then-junior Yue Xu tied for first place with a 145 (+1).

From there, Appalachian heads back to North Carolina for its only tournament in the state in the fall for the Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Inn Golf Club on Sept. 17-18. The Apps claimed 16th place last season in a large field of 23 teams.

Brown’s squad then heads to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-7 at the Rock Hill Country Club. The Mountaineers claimed fourth place in last fall’s event behind Lauren Smith’s first-place finish.

App State then heads to the Low Country for Charleston Southern’s Wendy’s Classic. The tournament moves to Rivertowne Country Club this season and takes place on Oct. 15-16. Rumbidzai Masamvu picked up a third-place finish last season and led the Apps to fourth place out of 16 teams in 2011.

The fall concludes at the Lady Paladin Invitational on Oct. 26-28 at the Furman University Golf Course. The Mountaineers took home 11th place at the 2011 tournament.

Brown’s team features four experienced seniors as well as a host of talented young players. The Mountaineers claimed fifth place in last April’s Southern Conference Tournament.
