British Soccer Camp Comes to High Country throughout Summer; Space Limited, So Sign Up Soon

May 29, 2012. As one of the fastest growing sports in America, the number of soccer players in the U.S. is nearing 20 million. In response to this growing popularity, the number one soccer company in the U.S. and Canada, Challenger Sports, will be hosting one of their British soccer camps in Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties this summer.

The camps will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of 1,000 British soccer coaches flown to the U.S. to exclusively work on these programs. Challenger Sports will hold over 3,500 soccer camps this summer and will coach over 130,000 children between the ages of 3 and 19.

This British soccer camp offers four days of drills and skills. Challenger’s new “1,000 Touches” coaching syllabus provides an innovative daily regimen of

foot-skills, technical, tactical practices, juggling and daily tournament play. Challenger also has partnered with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to help educate players in lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship.

The British soccer camp program also provides a unique cultural experience for the players, highlighted in the Camp World Cup. The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up soccer chants, wear the team colors of their country, bring flags and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.

Each camper will also receive a free soccer camp t-shirt, a soccer ball, giant soccer poster and personalized skills performance evaluation. In addition, an child who signs up on-line at least 45 days prior to camp will receive a soccer replica jersey, valued at $39, for free. Space is limited and parents are encouraged to sign up online  at www.challengersports.com as soon as possible. Opportunities to combine cultural learnings and athletic skills are truly unique, and High Country parents have been filling up spaces in the Challenger camp quickly.

The Challenger Soccer Camp will run from July 9-13 at the Brookshire Park in Boone. Ashe County will host a camp at Family Central Complex from June 18-22. Avery County’s Camp will be located at the high school football field, between June 25 and 29. Wilkes County will host the camp from July 30-August 3 at the Rivers Edge Soccer Complex. Camps are open to children 3-16-years-old.
