Feb. 4, 2013. The Lees-McRae College men’s basketball team placed five players in double figures en route to an 83-60 win over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon in Williams Gymnasium.

Lees-McRae (2-17, 2-11 CC) posted a field goal percentage of 49.2 percent on the afternoon, shooting an even 50 percent from the floor in the second half, while holding Pfeiffer (3-16, 1-11 CC) to a 31.9 percent clip in the contest. Lees-McRae won the battle on the glass in dominating fashion, outmuscling Pfeiffer by a 44-25 margin on the boards, including a 14-6 advantage on the offensive end of the floor. The Bobcat bench outscored the Falcons reserves, 52-21, in the contest, while tallying 22 second chance points.

Asad Lamot (Mebane, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with a game-high 14 points, going 5-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, while also posting contest-bests of seven assists and six rebounds. DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.) added 13 markers and five boards, while DJ Brown (Anderson, S.C.) knocked down four three-pointers to end the night with 12 points, all in the first half. Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, Australia) and Charles Clarke (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Tayron Gibson led the way for Pfeiffer with 13 points, converting each of his eight attempts at the free throw line while pulling down a team-high five rebounds. Montez Singleton added 11 points, while Jerod Wallace and David McNair each chipped in nine markers. Kenny Tappin also tallied eight points for the Falcons.

The Bobcats opened the game with an 8-4 spurt, capping the spurt on Brown’s first trey of the game at the 16:12 mark. Pfeiffer countered with a 12-6 run, claiming a 16-14 advantage with 10:23 left in the half on a pair of Gibson free throws.

Brown would answer for the Bobcats, knocking down a trio of treys to spearhead an 11-2 surge that gave Lees-McRae a 25-18 lead at the 5:59 mark. The run was highlighted by one of the plays of the night, a nothing-but-net three-pointer by Brown off a textbook no-look pass by Corey Young (Bluff City, Tenn.) with 6:51 left in the period.

Lees-McRae would continue to dictate play over the final five and a half minutes of the half, closing the period with a 14-8 run to take a 39-26 advantage into the intermission. Pfeiffer countered quickly in the second half, opening the period with a 7-2 spurt to cut the margin to 41-33 on a McNair lay-in with 17:56 to play.

The Bobcats answered with a 16-7 run, pushing the lead to 57-40 following a Lamot triple and a Tillman tip-in with 10:54 left on the clock. The Bobcats would close out the win in style, holding the Falcons at bay while outscoring Pfeiffer by an 18-7 margin over the final five and a half minutes en route to the 83-60 victory.
