June 30, 2014. Blood Sweat and Gears (BSG) and Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB) honored Ride2Recovery athletes during ride weekend on Friday and Saturday.

Blood Sweat and Gears, a charity ride consisting of a 50-mile and 100-mile loop to and from Valle Crucis, hosted 20 Ride2Recovery athletes.

Ride2Recovery is produced by the nonprofit Fitness Challenge to raise money for a cycling program for wounded veterans to help them overcome obstacles they now face.

Following the race, BSG and AMB collaborated on a fireworks show that occurred at the old Watauga High School and could be seen throughout Boone and surrounding communities.

AMB hosted the after party following the BSG ride. The event kicked off at 6:30 p.m. with a toast to the Ride2Recovery athletes and the fireworks show began a few hours later. Also, AMB donated a portion of its proceeds from its The 1st Revolution pints sold to the R2R program.

“We lit it up like a candle,” BSG Ride Director Scott Nelson said. “It was an awesome show.”
