Feb. 21, 2014. If you’re looking for a fast paced snow adventure, look no further than the Banked Slalom Race at Beech Mountain Resort held on Feb. 22.

bankedslolamBeech Mountain’s annual Banked Slalom Race is held at Beech Mountain’s unique course featuring turns, banks, doubles, jumps and snow berms. This is definitely one competition you don’t want to miss.

Held in conjunction with the Totally Retro 80’s Weekend, the Banked Slalom competition is great for all ages and skill levels.

“I think the turnout for this will be the largest turnout for an event this year,” said Talia Freeman, marketing director for Beech Mountain Resort.

“It’s great because it caters to all skill levels, and is a great time for everyone.”

Categories for the competition include 14 and under, youth (14-17) and a men’s and women’s open. Prizes will be awarded that range from a cash purse to awesome products from the sponsors.

Registration has only just begun and there are already some preregistrations in anticipation of the upcoming event.

“So far we have a few preregistrations from people who are just that excited to get out there, and we are expecting a lot of day-of registrations as well,” said J.P Pardy, owner of RECESS in Boone, who is one of the event’s sponsors.

“I think that this year we could get more than 100 participants.”

This year’s competition is sponsored by RECESS, Edge of the World, Skull Candy, SMITH, LIB Tech, GNU, Armada, One Ball Jay, Dakine and Spacecraft.

“The cool thing about a banked slalom is that if you can snowboard at all, you can do it,” said Jeff Johnson of Edge of the World in Banner Elk, one of the sponsors of the event.

“It’s not just limited to those who can do freestyle, or race gates, or jump. If you can make it down the mountain, you can compete.”

The entry fee for the competition is $15 and discounted lift tickets are available for those competing in the race. Preregistration is available at Edge of the World and and Recess now through Feb. 21.

On site registration is also available on the day of the race. Registration will be held in Roots Ride Shop in Beech Tree Village from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The race will officially begin at 1 p.m.
