June 7, 2013. Magic Cycles in Boone is celebrating 20 years of service to the High Country, and just in time for their birthday, they are teaming up with Beech Mountain Resort to do a little bit of expansion.
Beech Mountain Resort has been long-known for their downhill mountain biking trails in the summertime. This year, however, they have partnered up with Magic Cycles to open up a new branch of the bike shop at the resort, to rent out bikes and provide bike service to thrill seekers.
On June 7, Magic Cycles will open up at Beech Mountain Resort, and will provide rentals and bike service to customers on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 28. With the newly expanded trails and the addition of the beginners trail this year, Magic Cycles, centrally located at Beech Tree Village inside the resort, is a welcome addition to the year-round adventure destination.
“I think that mountain biking here is a new endeavor for us, and we have a great relationship with Magic Cycles,” said Talia Freeman of Beech Mountain Resort.
“I can’t think of a better person to run the rental shop for us.”
Beech Mountain Resort has a long history with mountain biking. In 2012, the resort was named the host for the 2012 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Gravity National Championships.
And they are getting plenty of support.
” The cycling community here is great,” Freeman said. “They are just so supportive and excited.”
Rates for rentals can be found here.
Magic Cycles, located in downtown Boone, opened up in 1993 and since then has become known across the high country for their exceptional service and knowledge of all aspects of cycling. It is run by Michael Boone, an avid cyclist among other talents who has been involved in cycling and mountain biking since he first got interested in the sport while attending college at Appalachian State University. After 20 years in business in Boone, this new development serves as a fitting birthday present for the local cycling guru.
“I have always wanted to have a satellite bike shop,” Boone said. “This is such a great opportunity.”
The bike shop at Beech Mountain resort will not only rent bikes, but also included in the rental fee is the required safety equipment like a helmet and elbow and knee pads.
“Because we are renting everything there, we hope that it will encourage people who have never tried,” Boone said.
Though the shop will mostly focus on rentals, they will also have parts and accessories with dedicated staff to assist all cyclists. Since they are eliminating the hassle in going on a downhill ride, Boone hopes that non-traditional cyclists will be more willing to try it out.
There are only 35 terrain parks in North America, and this is the only terrain park in North Carolina with the next closest being in Virgina. With multiple trails and lots of options for riders to choose from, there is something for everyone.
“This is definitely something to be excited about,” Boone said.
Other than mountain biking, Beech Mountain Resort also offers scenic ski lift rides and disc golf during the summer months. For a detailed schedule of their summer events, please click here. In addition to the new satellite shop, the Magic Cycles flagship location will remain open in downtown Boone.
