Aug. 14, 2014. Appalachian State University Athletic Director Charlie Cobb has been identified as one of three finalists for the athletic director position at Georgia State University, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which cited two anonymous sources familiar with the search.

“…Two of the finalists are Charlie Cobb, athletic director at Appalachian State, and Mario Moccia, athletic director at Southern Illinois. The third candidate is an assistant athletic director at an SEC school who wasn’t identified,” the newspaper reported on Wednesday evening.

The paper noted the strong fundraising background of both Cobb and Moccia and the construction of new facilities at both App State and Southern Illinois. In addition, it noted Cobb’s ties to Atlanta.

“Cobb is in his 10th year in Boone, where the university has undergone more than $50 million in facilities upgrades. He has family in Atlanta and in the 1990s worked for the Atlanta Sports Council, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Georgia Dome,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Neither Cobb nor Moccia returned requests for comment.
