The national spotlight returns to Appalachian State University on Thursday night when Appalachian State hosts Arkansas State for one of the biggest games in Sun Belt Conference history. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

Thursday’s game pits the only undefeated teams remaining in Sun Belt play this season — 4-0 Appalachian State (7-1 overall) and 4-0 Arkansas State (5-3 overall) — and marks only the second time in conference history that two unbeaten teams in league play will meet this late in a year. The only time that it happened previously came on Nov. 16, 2002 when North Texas (5-5, 4-0 Sun Belt) played New Mexico State (6-4, 4-0 Sun Belt). The Mean Green defeated the Aggies, 38-27.

Appalachian State, the first 7-1 team in Sun Belt history, is receiving votes in both of this week’s major college football polls. With four points in this week’s Associated Press College Football Top 25 poll, the Mountaineers are tied for seventh in the “others receiving votes” category (t-32nd overall), which is the closest that Appalachian has ever been to breaking into the AP Top 25. App State also made its debut in the Amway Coaches Poll this week with one point (14th in the “others receiving votes” category, 39th overall).

Once again, Appalachian State athletics is asking Mountaineer faithful to tell us where you plan to watch #AppInPrimetime this week, be it in person among what is sure to be a raucous crowd at The Rock or on television nationwide. Visit appstatesports.com to download and print your “I’m Watching The Mountaineers From …” sign, fill it out and post a photo to social media using the hashtag #AppInPrimetime.
