May 18, 2012. CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Thursday’s baseball game between No. 24 Appalachian State and Western Carolina was suspended due to rain and lightning with WCU leading, 5-0, in the top of the seventh inning.

When play was halted for the second time, the Mountaineers had a runner on first base with nobody out in the seventh.

There was also a one-hour-and-37-minute delay in the bottom of the fourth inning. Western sandwiched all of five of its runs around the long delay in the fourth.

The suspended game will resume on Friday at 4 p.m. at WCU’s Hennon Stadium, followed by the regularly scheduled second contest of the three-game weekend series.
