Appalachian State University’s Women’s Basketball Team Announces the Complete 2013-2014 Game Schedule

Aug. 12, 2013. Appalachian State University women’s basketball head coach Darcie Vincent announced her team’s complete 2013-14 schedule Monday, which will include non-conference match ups at Vanderbilt and Ohio State.

“Our program is heading into the ’13-’14 season will quite a few unrecognizable faces,” said Vincent. “We had a wonderful summer session and are looking forward to the challenges of the upcoming season. Coach Heather [Kearney] put together a schedule that will not only test our basketball ability but our mental strength as we play four opponents who competed in post season play last year. We begin our season’s journey in Nashville versus Vanderbilt, which will provide us with an early evaluation of our young team and the kind of damage we could do in our last season of the Southern Conference.”

When asked for any final remarks on the upcoming season Vincent quickly added, “all I know is that we are looking forward to being back on the hardwood and seeing our “family” in the stands!”

The Mountaineers hit the hardwood on Nov. 2 for an exhibition against Queens College, but will officially open the season on Nov. 8 when they travel to SEC country to face Vanderbilt.

Appalachian then returns home for a pair of contests at the Holmes Center. Up first, a doubleheader against East Tennessee State on Nov. 12, followed by a Nov. 15 matchup versus High Country-neighbor Lees-McRae.

The Apps make a short trip to Boiling Springs on Nov. 19 to play Gardner-Webb before Souther Conference foe Western Carolina visits Boone on Nov. 26.

Women’s hoops wraps up its non-conference schedule in December, beginning with a visit to NC A&T on Dec. 4, then heading west for Dec. 6 and 7 games versus Idaho and UC-Irvine, respectively, in the Montana-hosted Lady Griz Classic; a trip that Vincent is looking forward to for the competition and team-bonding time.

Winter break is preceded with road appointments at Radford (Dec. 16) and Big Ten power Ohio State (Dec. 20) App State then returns from the two-week hiatus to face UNC-Wilminton on Dec. 31.

The Mountaineers open their conference slate on Jan. 4 at Furman and head straight to Wofford for a Jan. 6 contest before Samford and Chattanooga visit the Holmes Center for Jan. 11 and 13 match ups. Appalachian will play contests at Elon on Jan. 17 and UNCG on Jan. 19 before returning to Boone for a four-game stretch that includes Davidson (Jan. 25), Georgia Southern (Jan. 27), Wofford (Feb. 1) and Furman (Feb. 3).

The Black and Gold will face long-time rivals Chattanooga and Samford in a second back-to-back stint on Feb. 8 and 10, respectively, before hosting UNCG on Feb. 15 and Elon on Feb. 17. Appalachian will close out its regular season with a three-game road stint that begins with a trip to Georgia Southern on Feb. 22, followed by Davidson on Feb. 24 and Western North Carolina on March 1.

The 2013 SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship will take place from March 7-10 in Asheville.

Tip-off times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
