July 17, 2013. Appalachian State University wrestling head coach JohnMark Bently revealed his team’s schedule for the 2013-2014 season on Wednesday. The Mountaineers’ schedule includes five home matches in addition to the squad’s annual trips to the prestigious Keystone Classic and Southern Scuffle events.
Appalachian begins its season with home matches against Anderson and Cumberland College on Nov. 10 before heading to the West Coast for Matches with Cal State Bakersfield and Grand Canyon University on Nov. 15. The Mountaineers will stay in California to take part in the Road Runner Open in Fresno, Calif. on Nov. 17 before returning to the East Coast to compete in the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia on Nov. 24.
A road match against Ohio University is slated for Dec. 14 before the Apps return home to take on NC State and Cleveland State on Dec. 19 in Varsity Gym in the final match of the calendar year.
The Mountaineers open up 2013 when they head to the annual Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Jan 1-2 before opening Southern Conference competition with a match at Campbell on Jan. 10. A string of four-straight road matches comes to an end with trips to Gardener-Webb (Jan 12) and The Citadel (Jan 19) before Duke visits the High Country on Jan 22.
After heavy snow forced the cancellation of last year’s Appalachian Open, the Mountaineers will once again host the annual event on Jan. 25 before embarking on another SoCon road trip, this time to take on Chattanooga, on Feb 2.
The Apps will wrap up the regular season with three-straight home matches against VMI (Feb. 7), Davidson (Feb 16) and SIUE (Feb 23) before heading off to the 2013 SoCon Championship in Buies Creek on March 8.
