Appalachian State University Football’s Sean Price and Tony Washington Named Preseason All-America

July 3, 2013. Two Appalachian State University football student-athletes earn preseason all-America recognition from The Sports Network on Monday. Sophomore wideout Sean Price (Reston, Va/South Lakes) earned first-team honors while senior Tony Washington (High Point, NC/ T.W. Andrews) was named to the third team as a kick returner.

In just 10 games as a redshirt freshman, Price caught 81 passes for 1,196 yards and eight touchdowns in 2012, shattering the FCS freshman records for receptions (71, set by Cal State Northridge’s Drew Amerson in 1999) and receiving yards (1,073, set by Marshall’s Randy Moss in 1996). Price’s 7.1 receptions and 119.6 yards per game both ranked sixth nationally last season, regardless of class.

The 2012 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year was a first-team all-conference selection by the league’s coaches and media and earned all-America and freshman all-America honors from the College Sports Journal.

Washington, who once again showed his versatility as both a receiver and return specialist last season, finished the year ranked 11th nationally in kick returns (27.4 ypr) and tied for 21st in punt returns (9.0 ypr). During the 2012 campaign, Washington racked up 629 yards on just 23 kickoff returns, including a 99-yard touchdown gallop against Wofford.

In addition, the Mountaineers’ do-everything-player also brought back 16 punts for 144 yards and hauled in 39 passes for 474 yards and three touchdowns. Washington finished second on the squad and 66th nationally in all-purpose yards (1,316/109.7 ypg).
