Appalachian State University Football Adds Four New Student-Athletes to the Roster for 2013 Campaign

July 15, 2013. Appalachian State University football has officially added four scholarship student-athletes to its roster, head coach Scott Satterfield announced on Monday during Sun Belt Conference Media Day at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The newest Mountaineers include inside linebacker Osvaldo Sombo (Charlotte/Butler), a junior-college transfer from Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, Calif., ride receiver Jaquil Capel (Mount Gilead/ West Montgomery), a transfer from UNC Charlotte, and true freshmen Treyon Garnett (Miami/Miami Beach), a defensive back from Miami and Toronto Thomas (Ellenwood, Ga./Air Force Prep), an inside linebacker from Ellenwood, Ga.

All are eligible to participate in games for Appalachian State this season except for Capel, who can practice with the Mountaineers immediately but must sit out of game action in 2013 due to NCAA transfer regulations.

Sombo has two seasons of eligibility remaining, Capel will have three when he begins participating in games in 2014 and Garnett and Thomas both have their full four seasons of eligibility ahead of them.

In other roster changes, sophomore linebacker Greg Hall and redshirt freshman running back Tysean Holloway requested and were granted releases from their scholarships. Both elected to transfer from Appalachian State.

Appalachian officially begins preparations for the 2013 campaign when it opens fall camp on Friday, Aug. 2. The season opener is set for Saturday, Aug. 31 at Montana.
