April 1, 2014. Appalachian State University football’s Sun Belt Conference debut at Georgia Southern will be televised nationally by ESPNU on Thursday, Sept. 25, the Sun Belt and ESPN announced on Tuesday. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27.

“Playing in primetime on national television is a great honor and benefit for our program,” Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield said. “It’ll be one of the few games being played that night, which gives our program invaluable exposure to recruits and college-football fans that might not ordinarily have the opportunity to learn about App State. It also gives Mountaineer fans across the country that aren’t able to travel to Statesboro the opportunity to watch us on television. And finally, it will be great to showcase the Appalachian-Georgia Southern rivalry in primetime. It should be a terrific atmosphere that our players will relish being a part of.”

The nationally televised contest is Appalachian State’s first since it hosted Villanova in the quarterfinals of the 2010 NCAA Division I Football Championship (a 42-24 loss) and its first in a coveted primetime slot since it defeated Wofford, 70-24, on a Friday night ESPN2 telecast in 2008.

Appalachian is 18-5 all-time in nationally televised games, including a 6-0 record on ESPNU. The Mountaineers last appeared on ESPNU during a 20-13 win over South Carolina State in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Football Championship.

Appalachian State has won three-straight games over longtime rival Georgia Southern. The last time the Mountaineers traveled to Statesboro, Ga. on Nov. 3, 2012, they beat the Eagles, who were ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division I FCS, 31-28.

Kickoff time for the Sept. 25 tilt has not been determined.
