Feb. 13, 2013. Appalachian State University football announced on Tuesday that dates are set for a number of gridiron events this spring.

While the Mountaineers have been working diligently in the weight room since the spring semester began last month, Appalachian State unofficially opened preparations for the spring on Monday night when it began its annual winter conditioning program. In addition to the traditional focus on speed and endurance, this year’s winter conditioning also puts a premium on competition with units battling in various intrasquad events.

The winter conditioning program is followed by the always anticipated spring-practice season, which will run from March 22-April 20 this year. Included in the 15 practice dates allowed by the NCAA will be an open practice to be held in Charlotte on Saturday, April 13 and a spring game to be held on Saturday, April 20 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Details for both the Charlotte practice (location TBA) and spring game will be announced as details are finalized.

The Mountaineers’ 2012 Southern Conference championship banquet is scheduled for Saturday, March 23 at the Holmes Center. Details for the celebration of Appalachian’s seventh SoCon title in eight years are also being finalized.

Finally, head coach Scott Satterfield and his staff will hold a clinic for high-school coaches on April 5-6 at the Appalachian Athletics Center and Kidd Brewer Stadium. Registration info will be available at GoASU.com in coming days.

Appalachian State’s 12-game 2013 schedule is nearing completion and will also be announced in the very near future. The 2013 slate is expected to include six home games and six road dates, beginning with the much-anticipated conclusion of a home-and-home series versus Montana on Aug. 31 in Missoula, Mont. The home opener is anticipated to be played on either Sept. 7 or 14 at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
