July 3, 2014. Jaylan Barbour, a true freshman ranked among the nation’s top 100 wide receivers in the high-school class of 2014, has enrolled at Appalachian State University and joined the Mountaineers’ football program.
Barbour, a 5-10, 165-pounder from Monroe, N.C., signed a National Letter of Intent with Wake Forest in February but was released from the obligations of that NLI, which allowed him to enroll at Appalachian State and play immediately.
ESPN ranked Barbour as the No. 79 high-school wide receiver nationally in the class of 2014 and the Fayetteville Observer tabbed him as the 30th-best prospect in the state of North Carolina. He caught 130 passes for 2,198 yards and 20 touchdowns during his prep career, including 46 receptions for 858 yards and seven scores as a senior.
