by Madison V. Fisler

Jan. 10, 2014. For the third year, the K2 “Pop This” Highest Ollie Tournament will be back at Appalachian Ski Mtn to take over the second Fresh Friday of the season.

In this third annual event, athletes will attempt to break the current records for the Highest Ollie, which stands at an incredible 100 cm.

POP_THIS-logoThe Fresh Friday events are very laid back and informal with free registration for everyone with purchase of a lift ticket.

Registration for this event will be from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Ski Shop, with the shred session beginning at 7 p.m.

“This is less of a competition environment and more of a fun group of people riding something brand new,” said Drew Stanley of Appalachian Ski Mtn.

“We have music, different announcers, and even giveaways for riders and spectators. As long as you have basic riding fundamentals, you will have  a great time.”

And the event isn’t just for adults. The family-friendly Fresh Fridays bring out participants of all ages, from seasoned shredders, to the college crowd, and even kids as young as seven.

“We try to tailor our setups so there are features for everyone,” Stanley said. “We want to make sure that no matter where you are skill-wise, we have something for you.”

This week’s event is the third time the “Pop This” Highest Ollie Tournament has been held in the powder at Appalachian Ski Mtn. This event is sponsored by K2 Snowboards.

From the Appalachian Ski Mtn. website:

The judging for Fresh Fridays will be unlike any other competition. No more first, second, or third place. We will be awarding prizes to certain standouts throughout the session. Whether you are a super tech rider, a style master, or simply out for the fun of it, we want everyone to participate, have fun and get a chance to win some great prizes.

“I really enjoy having Fresh Friday events because for us, it encourages us to keep things new and changing. It allows us to create a whole new slope and that is a lot of fun for us. Having these events throughout the season gets everyone together, it’s a fun sense of camaraderie.”

Before you ride, remember to fill out your waiver and bring it with you to the event. The waiver can be filled out on site, or to save time, it can be printed and filled out at home here
