Sept. 25, 2013. On Sept. 28, our hometown heroines the Appalachian RollerGirls will take on the Charlotte Roller Girl All Stars in an away bout at Grady Cole Center in Charlotte.
Doors for the event will open at 5:30 and the bout itself will begin promptly at 6 p.m.
This bout will also feature much more than female athleticism. Halftime show will be provided by Dr. Cirkustein, music will be provided by DJ Spyder, first whistle will be done by Sherri Lynch of The Bob and Sherri Show, and Prince Albert from Blue Ridge Roller Girls will be the guest announcer. The anthem will be performed by Crystal Belk.
“I’m super excited to play the Charlotte Rollergirl’s Allstars team,” said Jennele Vaquera, captain of the Appalachian RollerGirls team.
“This will definitely be a challenging bout. CLTRG Allstar’s have played alot of teams from all over the country this season. It will be great to see what they have learned from all their traveling bouts. Every bout we play is a learning experience for our growing team; win or lose.”
Advanced ticket prices are $6 for children ages 6 -12 and $10 for adults. Day of tickets are $8 for children and $12 for adults.

The Appalachian Rollergirls team was founded in the spring of 2010 by ASU student, Jordan Coats. She posted to Facebook about an interest in starting a team, and through word of mouth interest grew until the first meeting when over 80 people showed up to take part. And the rest is history.
For 30 action-packed minutes, these girls fight and kick around the track in flamboyant costumes and alter-egos. The beatings can be rough at first, but the team encourages new players to keep going and push on. The team hopes to gain membership in the WFTDA, the big leagues of roller derby, in the near future and ultimately be ranked.
