April 5, 2013. The Appalachian Rollergirls will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the Vett City Vixens at the Skate Box in Bowling Green, Ky. This will be their second bout of the season after falling to the Miss B-Havers of Columbia, S.C., back in January.

The loss to start the season was a tough one after the ladies on skates completed a near-perfect season last year.

“I think we realize that every year is not going to be the same. We don’t have all the same players,” said Megan “Bone Thugs N Carmody” Carmody, team co-founder. “That loss kind of got us back on our toes a little.”

This will be the second time time the Rollergirls face the Vixens. They lost to them last summer playing their second match in two days after having faced the the Music City Brawl Stars of Nashville the day before. In roller derby, when there are matches on back-to-back days the second is called a “hangover bout” and Carmody joked that perhaps last year some of the skaters on the team experienced that in a literal way.

Carmody said the team has been working hard on new strategies and plays to better their chances and said she really thinks the current group of skaters have a strong understanding of the sport.

“We have a lot to show this time. Last time was just a fluke,” Carmody said. “I think we’re very well matched.”

The bout takes place at the Bowling Green Skate Box, located at 506 Three Springs Road, Bowling Green, Ky. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the bout begins at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
