App State to Honor Heroes on Nov. 5 During Home Game Versus Arkansas State

As part of its annual Heroes Day, Appalachian State University athletics has planned a number of promotions and special events to honor military personnel, first responders and veterans during Appalachian State football’s pivotal Sun Belt Conference matchup versus Arkansas State on Thursday, Nov. 5.

TICKET SPECIALS FOR HEROES

  • All Heroes (military personnel, first responders and veterans) will receive FREE admission with valid ID.
  • Heroes’ family members will be admitted for the special rate of just $17.
  • To receive free and discounted tickets, Heroes can call the Appalachian State athletics ticket office at (828) 262-2079 or visit the ticket office (located at the Holmes Center) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

UNDER THE LIGHTS FAMILY FOUR PACK

All fans can purchase four regular reserved tickets for just $99 (a savings of up to $29). The Under The Lights Family Four Pack is available to purchase online at appstatesports.com/tickets (promo code: 4PACK), by phone at (828) 262-2079 or in person at the Appalachian State athletics ticket office, located at the Holmes Center.

MILITARY MATCHING DAY

Thursday, Oct. 29 will be Military Matching Day in the Appalachian State athletics ticket office. For each ticket that is purchased for the Nov. 5 showdown versus A-State, Appalachian State athletics will match that ticket and provide it to a family member of one of our Heroes.

All tickets purchased online at appstatesports.com/tickets, by phone at (828) 262-2079 or in person at the Appalachian State athletics ticket office (located at the Holmes Center) on Thursday, Oct. 29 will be matched as part of the Military Matching Day event.

HEROES TAILGATE

All Heroes in attendance are invited to join Appalachian State’s Military Affairs Committee and Student Veterans Association for an exclusive pregame tailgate party, complete with food, beverages and fun. The tailgate party starts at 4 p.m. at Duck Pond Field.

MOUNTAINEER WALK

Members of the Appalachian State Student Veterans Association will join Appalachian’s coaches and student-athletes for Mountaineer Walk.

Student veterans will carry the flags of all branches of the United States military during the Mountaineers’ traditional pregame journey from Roess Dining Hall, through the Rivers Street tunnel on the west side of Stadium Drive, between Trivette and Newland Halls and across the Stadium lot to Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The Mountaineers and student veterans will begin Mountaineer Walk at 4 p.m.

HONOREES

Major Timothy Driscoll

Appalachian State athletics is honored to welcome Major Timothy Driscoll to conduct the coin toss prior to the Appalachian State-Arkansas State game. Major Driscoll is a Green Beret that was awarded a Silver Star for Valor in Combat. He will be inducted into the Appalachian State ROTC Hall of Fame on Friday, Nov. 6.

The family of LCDR Dale Taylor

Appalachian State athletics is also honored to host the family of U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Dale Taylor (Appalachian State Class of 1999). LCDR Taylor was killed in a training accident in 2012. Among his family members that will be in attendance includes his wife, Teresa, an Appalachian alumna that was a member of the cheerleading squad during her time as a student at App State.

Additional Heroes in attendance as special guests

Appalachian State Chancellor Dr. Sheri N. Everts and athletics suite holders will host several veterans and/or family members in honor/memory of their service to our country.

TEAM ENTRANCE

Dan Peegram, vice president of the Appalachian State Student Veterans Association, will lead the Mountaineers on to the field while displaying an American flag.

MILITARY MEDLEY

The Appalachian State Marching Mountaineers will honor of Heroes at halftime with a performance of a Military Medley. A color guard will be on the field to present the colors of each branch of the U.S. military and all current and former military personnel in attendance are asked to stand and be recognized while their branch’s anthem is performed.

VIDEOBOARD RECOGNITION

Leading up to the Heroes Day game, fans are encouraged to submit photos of the Heroes in their lives to be displayed on the Kidd Brewer Stadium videoboard during the contest. Photos can be submitted via email to [email protected].

PATRIOTIC BLOCK A HELMETS

For the second-straight year, Appalachian State’s Block A logo will be emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes as part of the Mountaineers’ game uniforms versus A-State. Fans are encouraged to wear apparel featuring the patriotic Block A in recognition of our Heroes.
