NOTING SATURDAY’S MATCHUP
• Despite a disappointing 1-4 start to the season, Appalachian State (1-1 SoCon) is just one game behind Samford (4-2, 2-0 SoCon) and Wofford (3-2, 2-0 SoCon) for the SoCon’s best league record.

• Appalachian’s last three losses have all come by three points, marking only the second time in the program’s 84-season history that three-straight defeats have come by three points or less. The only other instance occurred in 1952.

• Saturday’s game marks the final SoCon meeting between the Mountaineers and Samford before Appalachian State joins the NCAA Division I FBS Sun Belt Conference next fall. Appalachian has won all five SoCon matchups with the Bulldogs since SU joined the conference in 2008.

• Appalachian State is the only SoCon team that Samford has not beaten in its five-plus seasons in the conference.

• In a series that dates back to 1969, the Mountaineers are 6-1 all-time versus the Bulldogs.

• The most memorable game of the series came last year in Birmingham, Ala. when Appalachian State scored with 22 seconds remaining to pull out a thrilling 28-25 victory.

• Wide receiver Sean Price made a spectacular lunging catch while keeping one foot in-bounds for the 22-yard game-winning touchdown last season at Samford.

• Saturday’s game features the SoCon’s top two passing offenses with Samford averaging 313 passing yards per game and Appalachian State averaging 287 yards a game through the air.

• Appalachian State quarterback Kameron Bryant leads the SoCon in passing efficiency with a 170.3 passer rating while Samford signal-caller Andy Summerlin leads the league in passing yardage with 292.3 yards per game.

• Both the Mountaineers and Bulldogs have three receivers ranked among the SoCon’s top 10 in terms of yardage (Marcus Cox, Tony Washington and Andrew Peacock for Appalachian and Kelsey Pope, Chris Cephus and Karel Hamilton for Samford).

• Appalachian is 38-11-2 (.765) in homecoming games at Conrad/Kidd Brewer Stadium.
