Oct. 28, 2014. Appalachian State University football returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Georgia State for a Sun Belt Conference game at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
Saturday’s game is part of Appalachian State’s annual Family Weekend festivities. Other promotions include:
Education Day (STUFF THE BUS): Help Appalachian State athletics and the Reich College of Education Stuff The Bus as part of Education Day at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Fans are asked to bring school supplies to fill a school bus that will be parked outside of the Echota West Gate. All supplies that are collected will be donated to Watauga County Schools and each fan that donates will receive a coupon for $1 off concession items inside Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday.
Mountaineer Summer Readers Day: Winners of Appalachian State’s Mountaineer Summer Readers program will be recognized during an on-field halftime ceremony.
Scholar-Athlete Ring Ceremony: Several former Appalachian State student-athletes that have graduated in the past year will be awarded Scholar-Athlete rings during a special pregame ceremony. To receive a Scholar-Athlete ring, an Appalachian State student-athlete must graduate with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
#WeAreAppState: As part of excitement surrounding the App State-Georgia State showdown, fans are urged to use the hashtag#WeAreAppState when posting about the game and its associated festivities on social media.

JONES HONORED AT TENNESSEE: Appalachian State inside linebackers coach Dale Jones was honored as the University of Tennessee’s Legend of the Game during Tennessee’s home contest versus Alabama this past Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.
One of the most popular and decorated players in Tennessee history, Jones made one of the signature plays in the history of the UT-Alabama rivalry when he intercepted Alabama’s Mike Shula late in the Vols’ 16-14 win at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. in 1985. The interception was one of the biggest moments in Tennessee’s historic 1985 campaign, which included an Southeastern Conference championship and a 35-7 Sugar Bowl win over No. 2 Miami (Fla.).
As part of Saturday’s ceremonies at UT’s Neyland Stadium, Jones was invited to participate in Tennesse’s traditional Run Through the T with the Vols as they took the field prior to their 34-20 loss to No. 3 Alabama. Jones was also joined on the field by his daughter, Brooke, for an in-game recognition.
A native of Cleveland, Tenn., Jones is in his 19th season as a member of Appalachian State’s coaching staff.
APP STATE-ULM TO BE SHOWN ON ESPN3: Appalachian State’s Nov. 8 home game versus UL Monroe will be carried on ESPN3, ESPN and the Sun Belt Conference announced on Monday.
