Noelle Marie Stringer, the 11-day-old daughter of Appalachian State University football student-athlete Devan Stringer, died suddenly on Monday morning in Boone.
“Our entire program is heartbroken for Devan and his family today,” Appalachian State football head coach Scott Satterfield said. “As the father of three children myself, a tragedy like this really puts football into perspective and gives all of us an opportunity to pause and think about what is truly important in life. Our thoughts, prayers and full support are with Devan and his family as they cope with this terrible tragedy.”
Noelle Marie Stringer was born on August 27. Devan Stringer, a sophomore from Gainesville, Ga., is a starting outside linebacker for the Mountaineers.
Out of respect for Devan and his family, Appalachian State football coaches and student-athletes will have no further comment at this time. Appalachian State athletics thanks the media in advance for respecting the privacy of Devan and his family and friends during this difficult time.
