BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University football held its annual media day Saturday morning inside Kidd Brewer Stadium, discussing the 2016 football season.
Around 15 media members attended the event where they talked with the likes of Marcus Cox (Dacula, Ga./Dacula), Taylor Lamb (Calhoun, Ga./Calhoun), Tyson Fernandez (Fuquay-Varina, N.C./Fuquay-Varina), Shaedon Meadors (Duncan, S.C./Byrnes) and other student-athletes. The Mountaineers began the morning with a team photo before position pictures, and then the day ensued with interviews with the media. Head coach Scott Satterfield, co-offensive coordinators Frank Ponce and Shawn Clark, and defensive coordinator, Nate Woody, spoke with the media to end the day.
The Mountaineers begin the first of 29 fall practices today before the season-opener at Tennessee on Thursday, Sept. 1. App State brings back 17 of 22 starters from both sides of the ball, including the dangerous backfield of Lamb and Cox in addition to the Sun Belt’s Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, John Law (Atlanta, Ga./Grady). Appalachian’s leading tackler from 2015, Eric Boggs (Belton, S.C./Belton Honea Path), is back for his junior season while offensive line staples Colby Gossett (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth) and Parker Collins (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) will look to help the offense mirror last season’s explosiveness.
All Appalachian State football practices are closed to the general public, but fans can follow the action throughout fall camp with daily recaps and video features at appstatesports.com starting tomorrow.
