ASU Athletics To Request To Use Old WHS Parking Lot for Thursday Night Football Games

By Jesse Wood

Appalachian State Athletics will appear before the Watauga County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday morning to request to use the parking lot at the old Watauga High School in Boone for the upcoming Thursday night home football games.

The university has yet to announce its logistical plan for the games on Thursday, Oct. 22 against Georgia Southern and Thursday, Nov. 5 against Arkansas State.

A committee comprised of officials with the Town of Boone, Appalachian State University and the athletics department has met since February in order to iron out a plan for a smooth game day with classes in session.

Home games are generally played on Saturdays – when the students aren’t parking in the university lots, where boosters park and fans tailgate hours before kickoff on game days.

Mike Flynn, ASU Sports Information Director, said that the announcement of its logistical plans is expected within the week.
