Feb. 19, 2013. As usual, the 2012-13 Sugar Mountain Adult Race League (SMARL) was a blast. The Monday-night race league, which is limited to a combined 100 skiers and snowboarders, came to a close with the final races of the season yesterday.

“It’s always a good year,” said Ski Country Sports Bill Leonard, adding that he is amazed that most of the participants raced every Monday night, juggling work, family, weather and whatever else pops up in life.

To participate in SMARL, you must sign up early, as the spots fill up quickly. Give Ski Country Sports in Banner Elk a call in late October, early November to secure a spot in the league, where good food, beer, camaraderie and winter sports meet.
