June 4, 2012. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Appalachian State Mountaineers (41-18) fell to Oklahoma (42-23) twice in a doubleheader on Monday night and were eliminated from the NCAA Playoffs in regional play.

ASU fell to Oklahoma 14-6 in the first game and 5-2 in the second.

Had the Mountaineers won the first, or the if necessary second, game of the doubleheader against Oklahoma they would have advanced to super regional play to face the University of South Carolina (43-17).

Despite the loss, this season marked one of the most successful seasons in Appalachian State baseball history and the first time the Mountaineers advanced to the NCAA postseason in 26 years. The Mountaineers won the regular season Southern Conference Title. Additionally, pitcher Ryan Arrowood won the SoCon Pitcher of the Year Award and head coach Chris Pollard won the SoCon baseball Coach of the Year Award. Designated hitter Daniel Kassouf is a Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist.

The Oklahoma Sooners will advance to face the South Carolina Gamecocks, and the Appalachian State Mountaineers will look forward to next season after falling just short of super regional play on Monday evening.
