April 8, 2014. After candidate Mike Rhoades, a former assistant at Virginia Commonwealth, was hired at Rice University, and Bobby Lutz, an associate head coach at N.C. State, withdrew his name from consideration, Appalachian State University may have finally found a head coach for its basketball team that recently had a dismal season under Jason Capel, whose four-year contract wasn’t renewed in March.

According to myfox8.com, Jim Fox, the associate head coach at Davidson, is just a few signatures away from becoming the next head coach of the ASU’s men’s basketball squad.

“A person with knowledge of the hiring process said Sunday afternoon that a contract is in place and that the remaining steps needed are signatures and approval by Appalachian State’s board of trustees, which could come Monday,” according to the report posted Sunday afternoon.

Fox has been with Davidson for 13 years and was promoted from longtime assistant coach to associate head coach of Davidson before the 2012-13 campaign.

The ASU Board of Trustees meets this afternoon and “employment agreement for men’s head basketball coach” is on the agenda.”
