March 24, 2014. Appalachian State University football held a lively and energetic scrimmage on Saturday on a beautiful day at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
The Mountaineers scrimmaged for just over an hour on a sunny afternoon the High Country as several big plays highlighted the afternoon.
After stretching and position group drills, Appalachian moved into full-on scrimmage mode as the defense dominated early on.
After forcing a turnover on downs on the opening drive, the Mountaineer defense came up huge on the second drive as Devan Stringer picked off an errant pass across the middle and ran it back 47 yards for a touchdown.
Appalachian’s offense responded two drives later when Taylor Lamb found Trey Anderson down the left sideline for a 65-yard touchdown pass. Not to be outdone, Kameron Bryant fired a touchdown strike of his own on the next drive when he found Barrett Burns from 10 yards out.
The Mountaineer offense would score once more during the scrimmage when Mason Moore connected on a 40-yard field goal. Several defensive players had impressive afternoons as John Law amassed a scrimmage-best six tackles and Brandon McGowan tallied four tackles and a sack.
