July 23, 2014. The 91st Annual Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show is hosting the Hunter and Jumper Division show from July 22-27 and from July 30-Aug. 3 at L.M. Tate Show Grounds in the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve. Expect to see world-class hunters and jumpers and their riders competing for glory and showing off the beauty and mystique of an age-old tradition.
The show begins at 8 a.m. each day and usually lasts until around 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate for $10 per day.
Maurice Ewing has been on the Board of Directors for the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show Foundation for 35 years and encourages all to come and experience this rare, world-class event.
“This horse show is celebrating its 91st year. It’s the oldest continually operated outdoor horse show in America — we haven’t missed a summer yet. We were rewarded Heritage Competition status by the United States Equestrian Foundation this past January; there are over 2500 sanctioned competitions and only 17 are Heritage Competitions. We’re near the top. Last year, the horse that won the Hunter Derby went on to be elected Horse of the Year by the United States Equestrian Foundation.”
A variety of food vendors will be present on the show grounds, serving hot-dogs, french fries, hamburgers, Mexican food, ice cream and more. Craft vendors will also be present, selling jewelry, clothing, gift items, photography and paintings. Horse show souvenirs will be available at the information booth.
The event has been held in the same site since 1915 and has maintained its esteemed reputation for nearly a century, so come out and watch the world-class competition and experience a one-of-a-kind slice of living history.
