Jan. 16, 2014. All but one of the 47 slopes and trails traversing Sugar Mountain Resort, Beech Mountain Resort and Appalachian Ski Mtn. are open for the upcoming Martin Luther King holiday weekend that is shaping up to be a fabulous chance to experience winter sports in the High Country.
“I think these are some of the best conditions we’ve had in years, so we are really happy with the product we are putting out and expect a great holiday weekend,” Talia Freeman of Beech Mountain Resort said, adding that it will have all 15 slopes and seven lifts open this weekend.
The latest ski report released noted that Beech Mountain had 13 trails open and five lifts operating as of Thursday morning.
Over in Banner Elk, Kim Jochl of Sugar Mountain Resort mentioned that 19 of their 20 trails are to be open this weekend. As of Thursday afternoon, only 18 are open with Boulderdash and Sugar Bear closed for the time being.
And across the way to Blowing Rock, Drew Stanley of App Ski Mtn. mentioned that every trail and lift will be open, too. App Ski Mtn. has six lifts and 12 slopes.
The Martin Luther King holiday is one of the four major holidays that increases attendance at the slopes significantly, and with great weather forecasted, area operators are excited about the influx of visitors – especially after consecutive dreary, rainy weekends.
