March 20, 2012. BOONE — Representatives from 26 National Football League teams converged on Appalachian State University on Monday for ASU’s annual Pro Day. Eight former Mountaineers worked out for the assembled professional football personnel at the Appalachian Athletics Center and Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The former Apps that participated in Monday’s activities included wide receiver Brian Quick, defensive back/wide receiver/return specialist DeAndre Presley, running back/wide receiver/return specialist Travaris Cadet, defensive linemen Dan Wylie, Chris Aiken and Gordy Witte, Jr., tight end Ben Jorden and running back Cedric Baker Boney. Appalachian also welcomed four prospects from nearby schools that do not conduct their own Pro Days: quarterback Cody Haffly and linebacker Clayton Hazeltine from Wingate, defensive end Aaron Patterson from Fayetteville State and tight end Andrew Rogers from Western Carolina.

Quick was the biggest draw for the largest contingent of NFL clubs to ever attend an ASU Pro Day. The 6-5, 220-pound receiver, who has already turned in strong showings for scouts at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, participated in nearly all of the activities, including the 40-yard dash and wide receiver-specific route-running and ball drills. He appeared to impress the nearly three dozen professional football staffers on hand, which included multiple representatives from a handful of NFL teams as well as scouts from Canadian Football League franchises. Per ASU policy, the school does not release specific results from Pro Day workouts, including 40-yard dash times.

ASU interim director of strength and conditioning Kareem Young said that the six NFL teams that did not send representatives to Monday’s Pro Day have all scheduled private workouts with at least one former Mountaineer.

The prospects are gearing up for the 2012 NFL Draft, which will be held April 26-28 in New York City. Last year, a school-record three former Mountaineers were selected in the NFL Draft — defensive back Mark LeGree (fifth round — Seattle Seahawks), offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore (fifth round — San Francisco 49ers) and linebacker D.J. Smith (sixth round — Green Bay Packers).
