July 19, 2012. Tournament tennis players from all over the Eastern U.S. will converge in Blowing Rock this July 26 – 29 when Yonahlossee Racquet Club hosts the 20th Annual Gladys Hackworth U.S.T.A. Adult Tournament. Players from ages 35 to 75 will compete in mixed doubles, mens’ singles & doubles and womens’ singles & doubles in age-appropriate brackets. For the love of the sport, state and nationally rated players will mingle and compete with club players and tennis professionals for a worthy recipient of the proceeds – the Watauga County Habitat for Humanity.

First and second place trophies are awarded in each division.  Each year, the tournament – which received “North Carolina Tournament of the Year” designation in 2004 – has grown in popularity and with it, the benefit to all involved in this premier sporting event. This year, players will be treated to tee shirts, a Friday night pasta party from Joe’s Italian, a Saturday night BBQ from Carolina Barbeque, dancing to a DJ, door prizes and the ability to participate in a silent auction.  Tournament sponsors, Yonahlossee Inn and the Inn at Crestwood will house many out-of-town players.

Registration deadline is July 21.
