Appalachian State University football head coach Scott Satterfield, senior running back Marcus Cox and senior linebacker and preseason Sun Belt Conference Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year John Law participated in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Football Media Day on Monday.
Satterfield, Law and Cox talked with the media about the upcoming 2016 season. The Mountaineers were picked as the preseason favorites by the Sun Belt coaches, while Law was named the Sun Belt’s Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Cox was named second-team all-Sun Belt.
On Sunday, all three took part in the Youth Football Clinic, working with the other schools from the conference and teaching kids from the area the fundamentals of football.
Talking points on Monday included high expectations for the season and playing “Power 5” schools, Miami (FL) and Tennessee.
Coming off an impressive 11-2 campaign in 2015 with a Camellia Bowl win over Ohio (31-29) and setting the record for the most wins in Sun Belt history, the Mountaineers return 17 starters. App State opens up the 2016 season on the road against Tennessee in Knoxville on Thursday, Sept. 1.
