April 22, 2013. At last, spring has sprung for the High Country, and two local businesses have wasted no time debuting the latest spring fashion. Shear Shakti and Lucky Penny in downtown Boone hosted their 8th fashion show on Friday, April 19.

The garden party themed fashion show was by invitation only, for patrons who received invitations by coming in to Shear Shakti and Lucky Penny to get started on their spring shopping. The fashion show showcased the latest fresh fashions that Lucky Penny has gotten in for the spring season, as well as hair, makeup and the artistic vision of Charlotte Baxter and her team.

“We totally decked out the shop and completely showed our creativity,” Baxter said. “Fashion is ever changing so we are always grabbing inspiration. The original inspiration was Marie Antoinette – Garden Party”.

The fashion show featured many local models like Bettie McKemie, Stella Ye, Katie Shulz, Casey Molloy, Cierra Borgers and Jodi Krause.

The hair, makeup and artistic talent were provided by the Shear Shakti team, including owner Charlotte Baxter, Kelsey Bennett, Katheryn Scarborough, Jamie Eller, Serena Crawford and Lorie Cole.

“Our inspiration was floral, sweet and feminine, as opposed to our last show which was more gothic,” Baxter said. “We wanted to feel pretty and sweet.”

Beginning at 8:30 on Friday night, the fashion extravaganza debuted spring looks to a packed house.

Following the fashion show, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour featuring many refreshments including desserts supplied by Black Canary Alchemy. Guests also enjoyed a special 15 percent discount just for the night.

“I think that the event went great,” said Jennele Vaquera, the owner of Lucky Penny.

“People really enjoyed seeing all of the clothes on the models, and everyone loves spring clothes. There was lots of shopping afterward, people just grabbed stuff off the racks and headed straight to the register.”

With the success of this lastest fashion show, it’s obvious that Boone and the rest of the High Country are ready for spring after a long winter.

Baxter said that the reasoning behind these well received shows is that both she and Vaquera love the community and want to reflect it back to them.

“We want everyone to know that it’s okay to be a rockstar,” Baxter said.

Lucky Penny and ShearShakti host two fashion shows per year, one for the spring season and one for fall. There is no word yet on a definite date for the next showcase. All of them, however, are free events.
