F.A.R.M. Cafe’s Benefit at Harvest House April 4

March 20, 2014. Join F.A.R.M. (Feed All Regardless of Means) Café on Friday, April 4th for it’s latest fundraising event. Harvest House in Boone will host the affair from 7pm-11pm that will include food, live music, dancing, raffles, and auctions. Not only will this be a great way to support the Cafe’s fight against hunger in the High Country, but also a “Real. Good. Party!”

FARM Cafe Party Poster final(1)A ticket to “Real. Good. Party!” will include entry to the event, food, and drinks including beer provided by local sponsor Appalachian Mountain Brewery. Tickets are $40 for one and $75 for a couple. All proceeds will benefit F.A.R.M. Café’s mission to build a healthy and inclusive community.

Those who enjoy a meal at the Cafe are welcome to donate, pay what they can, or volunteer in return for a meal. F.A.R.M Café has served over 36,000 meals since its opening in May of 2012, and annually, twenty percent of guests volunteer for their meal or receive it at little to no costs. The Cafe’s daily lunch includes a variety of soup, entrees, sides, salad, drinks, and desserts.

At it’s location at 617 W. King Street, the Cafe serves an average of 75 meals each day and has become a popular place for a variety of individuals in the local community to come together. Some guests of the Cafe include local business people, university students and staff, and those who are experiencing food insecurity. With the friendly environment and delicious food, F.A.R.M. Cafe’s vision is to end hunger in the High Country, one meal at a time. Because the Café is a nonprofit corporation, it is only with the support from the community, combined with the donations from guests and volunteers, that this extraordinary restaurant is possible.

The USDA defines food insecurity as insufficient access to food due to a lack of money or adequate recourses. According to the 2013 Map the Meal Gap Study (feedingamerica.org/hunger-in-america/hunger-studies/map-the-meal-gap.aspx) 38,000 or 27 percent of children in Western North Carolina live in households that are food insecure. North Carolina’s overall food insecurity rate currently exceeds nineteen percent.

Attendance at the April 4th event, “Real. Good. Party,” will not only show support for F.A.R.M. Cafe as well as the local community. Boone’s own Soul Benefactor will preform live music throughout the event. In addition, there will be a live auction, silent auction, and raffle that guests will be able to participate in. Prizes will include art and jewelry by a number of local artists, including Susan Dahlin, Bob Meier at Doe Ridge Pottery, Jimmy Savely, Don Haywood, Doc’s Rocks, and many more. The prizes will also include special gifts and gift certificates from countless local businesses, such as Black Cat, Woodlands, Grandfather Mountain Park, Tapp Room, Oil Exchange and TJ Maxx.

Tickets for “Real. Good. Party!” can be purchased at F.A.R.M. Café during the weekly hours, Monday through Friday from 11am to 2pm. Those who are unable to attend the event are welcome to donate, stop by and eat a meal, or register to volunteer at the Café. “Real. Good. Party!” will be a celebration of both community and F.A.R.M. Café’s efforts to achieving it’s goal of eliminating hunger in the High Country.

What better way to help the local community than to have a Real. Good. Party! with Real. Good. Food.
