Watauga County Register of Deeds Alerts Citizens of Company Sending Out Letter, Charging for Deeds

Announcement from Watauga County Register of Deeds:

It has recently been brought to our attention by a concerned citizen that a company based in California calling itself Record Transfer Services has sent a mailer to some property owners in Watauga County claiming to be a “Recorded Deed Notice,” and requesting $83.00 from property owners for a “Document Fee.”

This Company is not affiliated with any governmental entity, and has no connection with the Watauga County government of the Watauga County Register of Deeds Office. Any correspondence from the Office of the Register of Deeds is only sent in a clearly marked envelope from the Register of Deeds, and would not come from any private company.

Citizens wishing to access copies of their deeds and other legal documents recorded in the Watauga County Register of Deeds Office may do so for free online at www.wataugacounty.org or may contact my office directly anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
