Jan. 23, 2015. It isn’t unusual for children to follow in their parents’ footsteps. Pam Vines went further. She followed her mom and dad into their offices.

Thirty years after her mother was appointed the president of the High Country Association of Realtors (HCAR), Vines recently took over that same role with the Association. In December she was installed as the HCAR president for the 2015 year.

Her mother, Norma Jenkins, served as president of the local board in 1985. Her father, Elmer Jenkins, served as president of the North Carolina Association of Realtors in 1984, and was on the North Carolina Real Estate Commission from 1985-1990.

“I think I was born to be a Realtor,” said Vines, who has been active in real estate since 1991.

As president of the HCAR, Vines will serves as a voice for the more than 350 Realtors in Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties. She will also work to stay aware of legislation that impacts both their work and rules surrounding the buying and selling of homes.

“Keeping up with law changes and potential updates that affect the real estate industry takes time,” she said. “It is important for not only our real estate professionals to be aware of this information, it is just as important for homeowners or potential homeowners to be aware also.”

She will also be active with other local community groups to “ensure that real estate is a thriving industry in our area.” Her goal for the year is to be a High Country source for real estate information and education.

“Your home is typically your largest asset, and it is so important to know that your interests as a homeowner are being protected – protected by the voices of the High Country Association of Realtors®,” Vines said.
