Winter Weather Doesn’t Curb Early Voter Turnout, More Than 550 People in Watauga County Cast Ballots So Far

By Jesse Wood

Oct. 25, 2013. As of 3 p.m. on Friday, more than 550 Watauga County residents have early voted in the 2013 municipal elections, and the cold weather hasn’t curbed enthusiasm.

“It’s been impressive. Today, as cold and snowy as it was, we’ve had the busiest morning from eight to nine [a.m.] that we’ve had,” Elections Director Jane Ann Hodges said Friday afternoon.

This compares to 434 early voters in 2011, when the Boone Town Council didn’t feature contested races and nearly 900 early voters in Watauga County for 2009 that featured competition in nearly all municipal races, according to historical data provided by the Watauga County Board of Elections.

Early voting across the state started on Oct. 17 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. While it is too late to register to vote on Election Day, same-day early voting registration is available. Look below for exact times, dates and locations to early vote in Watauga and Avery counties.
